Mindset Training for Entrepreneurs Who Are Done Guessing

Mindset training for entrepreneurs is one of those phrases that sounds important until you try to figure out what it actually means in practice.

You’ve probably heard about it. Maybe you’ve read books about mindset, or taken courses on the topic, or even tried some morning routine someone recommended. And sure, for a while maybe it worked, but I bet if you’re reading this, you’re quietly wondering if you’re doing everything right!

Here’s what I want to say to you right upfront: you’re not doing anything wrong. The advice that’s out there about mindset is just usually either too abstract to be useful, or too complicated to actually make it a part of your day.

So that said, what I’m going to walk you through now is the easy version of what mindset training actually is, how it works (from a brain science perspective), and how to get started today in a way that feels natural, doable, and actually good.

That’s the whole point, right? This is supposed to feel good!

What Is Mindset Training?

Mindset training is the deliberate, daily practice of directing your thoughts toward positivity, positive expectation, and possibility, instead of letting your brain run on autopilot and default to the thoughts of fear, doubt, or worry. (Our brains like to run on autopilot if we’re not directing them.)

Your brain thinks about 60,000 to 90,000 thoughts per day (yes, that many!) And about 95% of them are… the same thoughts you also had yesterday. This means, without doubt, that you are likely experiencing this thinking loop.

If yesterday’s thoughts included things like: “I’m not making enough money”, “Why isn’t this working?”, or “Maybe I’m just not the kind of person who succeeds at this”… that loop is still running right now. It’s influencing your decisions, affecting your confidence, and ultimately, your results.

Well, mindset training interrupts that loop. It’s the practice of becoming a proactive thinker, instead of someone who just thinks by default. This is a learnable skill too, available to anyone. Including you, exactly as you are right now.

What’s The Difference Between Mindset Training and Just Thinking Positive?

Thinking positive is trying to paste a cheerful thought on top of a negative one and hope it sticks… Most people have tried this and know exactly how well it works when you’re already frustrated, depleted, or deep in self-doubt (spoiler: not very well).

Mindset training is different. It’s a real daily practice that works with the actual mechanics of your brain (specifically a part of the brain called the Reticular Activating System) to gradually and genuinely shift what your brain looks for, notices, and attracts.

The difference between the two is the difference between hoping you feel better and training yourself to feel better. One is passive, but the other is a skill.

And like any skill, it gets easier and more natural the more you practice it.

Why Mindset Training Is the Most Practical Business Tool You Own

I want to be direct about something, because I think there’s something that gets lost in a lot of mindset conversations.

Mindset training is not a “nice-to-have”. It’s not like it’s a side of business that lives separately from the real strategy work.

In reality, it’s the most practical, highest-leverage tool available to any entrepreneur.

You see, your emotional state affects every single business result you produce: the quality of a sales conversation, the confidence behind a piece of content, or decisions you make during a slow month, and so on.

Think about the last time you took action from a genuinely good place. Maybe you were excited about a new idea, or you’d just had a great conversation, or something shifted and you felt clear and ready.

How did that go? Probably pretty well, right?

Now think about the last time you pushed through something from a place of frustration, overwhelm, or… dread. The results were different, right?

That’s not a coincidence; that’s your brain at work.

Every decision you make in your business is filtered through your emotional state before it reaches anyone else. When that state is hopeful and expectant, you use your best brain. You get into flow. You make better decisions faster. You show up in a way that makes people want to lean forward.

When it’s not, even the best strategy in the world feels like pushing through mud.

This is why mindset training is the engine underneath everything else. You can have the perfect offer, the right audience, and a solid plan, and still get mediocre results if the internal state you’re operating from is working against you.

But once you start training your brain, everything changes.

The Core Practices of Brain Training for Entrepreneurs

Here’s what I love most about mindset training: it doesn’t require extra time taken out of an already full day.

These practices attach to what’s already there. They literally take minutes, and they compound over time into a different internal ‘default’. Here are my favorite examples:

The Morning 60-Second Practice

Waking up is basically a morning reset. Whatever happened yesterday is gone, and what you focus on in those first 60 seconds sets the direction for your Reticular Activating System (before anything else gets a vote).

So, put a sticky note on your alarm clock or on the wall across from your bed. Something simple: “Today is going to be a great day” or “I’m a brain trainer”. When you see it, stay in bed for 60 seconds and do three things:

  • First, reaffirm your identity. “I’m a brain trainer, and I’m getting better at this every day.”
  • Second, appreciate yourself. “I’m happy I’m on this path.”
  • And third, look forward to one thing. Even something small. And if nothing comes to mind, just say: “I’m looking forward to today”.

That’s it. 60 seconds. And your little matchmaker, the RAS, has its instructions for the day.

The Daily Mantra

A mantra is a short, positive sentence you repeat throughout the day to give your brain a consistent directive. Say it in the morning, before the call, especially when self-doubt creeps in.

Some options to start with are:

“I’m figuring this out.”

“People like what I have to offer.”

“I’m getting better and better at this.”

“The right clients are finding me.”

“Something is shifting. I can feel it.”

Pick one that feels even a little bit true, and say it until it feels more true. That’s how the training works!

The Daily Wins List

Every evening, write down three things that went right in your business that day. They don’t have to be big (a good conversation, a moment when you caught a negative thought and chose a better one, a good training you attended, a surprise sale, or anything that makes you smile).

What you document consistently is what your RAS goes looking for more of. The wins list flips the filter from what didn’t work to what is working, and over time, the evidence stack of momentum gets thick enough that your brain starts defaulting to it.

The Emotional Scale Check-In

When the day gets hard, and you find yourself in a negative loop, reach for the emotional scale. Identify where you are, then say the right sentences for the next emotion up, one step at a time, until you feel the shift in your body. You can find all the info you need to climb up the Emotional Scale right here.

You can really move from frustration to hope in a few minutes. And from hope, the rest of the positive emotions tend to follow naturally.

How the Reticular Activating System Makes All of This Work

Your Reticular Activating System (RAS) is the little matchmaker in your brain, and its full-time job is to match your outer world to your inner thoughts.

Whatever you focus on consistently, your RAS goes looking for evidence of it in your environment. When you train your brain toward positive expectation, it starts surfacing opportunities, conversations, and ideas that were always there but invisible to you. When you run on default thinking, it finds evidence of the worry and the self-doubt instead.

Consistent new focus produces a noticeable shift in what you notice and attract within just three days!

So, do three days of consistent mantras and a daily wins list, and you’ll start to feel a shift. Most people are surprised by how quickly it happens.

What to Expect as Your Mindset Training Builds

Now let me give you a realistic and encouraging picture of what this actually looks like over time.

In the first 72 hours, most people notice a subtle but real shift in their emotional baseline. Things feel a little lighter, and the wins list starts revealing patterns of momentum they hadn’t noticed before. The mantras start to feel less like reciting words and more like something true. And the best part: most people start to see evidence that it’s working in that time. It takes about 72 hours for your RAS to be trained.

Over the first few weeks, the shift deepens more and more. Obstacles that would have triggered a spiral start to feel smaller. Opportunities that would have been invisible start to show up. Your confidence builds not because everything is going perfectly, but because the RAS is finally working for you, instead of against you.

Over months, the transformation is huge. So many entrepreneurs who were stuck in the same patterns for years start to see real movement. Their content sounds more like them, client conversations feel lighter, and in general, their business finally starts to feel like it fits.

And yes, there will be hard days. Days when the old default loop rushes back, and the mantra feels difficult to keep up with. Hang in there. That’s part of the process.

On those days, fall back to self-care. Make sure you’re sleeping enough. Pamper yourself. Reach for the emotional scale and focus on your wins, but hold off on doing mantras until you’re feeling better. Just relax and say nice things to yourself.

Remind yourself, “I’m doing the best that I can. I’m doing better.” Or even, “In the past, this would have derailed me, but now, I know what to do.” Remind yourself that your RAS is listening, and so you’re being gentle with yourself.

I’ve been teaching brain training for almost 25 years and still experience negative thoughts. The difference is how quickly I catch them, redirect them, and get back to positive emotional momentum. That speed is what mindset training builds, for anyone who practices consistently.

Mindset Training For Entrepreneurs Works Even Faster With the Right Support

Here’s something most mindset resources won’t mention: your RAS doesn’t only respond to your internal practice. It also responds to your environment!

When you’re surrounded by other brain trainers, who speak the language of positive expectation, share wins openly and cheer each other on, your RAS reads that environment as confirmation that growth is normal, and success is expected for someone like you.

Every internal shift you’re building through daily practice becomes more powerful because the people you surround yourself with reinforce it all the time.

The JoyFluency Club is built for exactly this. It’s where entrepreneurs train their brains together every day, share wins, do the mindset work collectively, and build businesses the fun, light, and easy way. Nobody has to figure it out alone.

And if you want to start somewhere simple and free right now, there are a few other options waiting for you.

The Daily Mantra newsletter puts a short, feel-good brain training directive in your inbox every morning before the day begins. Your RAS gets a positive instruction before your inbox, your to-do list, or anyone else gets a vote.

The 60-Second Workshop gives you a fast, practical brain training reset you can use anywhere, anytime, in under a minute.

Now, read the following words out loud or to yourself right now, and feel the shift:

I am a brain trainer.

I train my brain every day.

I give my RAS positive instructions.

I notice what’s going right.

I feel my momentum building.

I show up as the best version of me.

My business is growing.

My confidence is growing.

My income is growing.

I’m doing this the fun, light, and easy way.

Right …

… NOW! WOOHOO! 🥳🎉

Mindset training isn’t a destination. It’s a daily habit of engaging your brain consistently with better thoughts, until they become the default.

Oh! And every person who trains their brain is a brain trainer. You don’t even need to be perfect at it, you just need to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does mindset training take to work for entrepreneurs?

Your Reticular Activating System responds to consistent new focus within 72 hours. That’s 3 days of intentional practice that produces a noticeable shift in how you feel, what you notice, and how you experience your business. Deeper and more lasting change builds over weeks and then months of consistent practice. The keyword here is consistent, not intense. A few minutes of genuine daily practice outperforms an hour of occasional effort every time.

Can mindset training really help me grow a business?

Yes, because your emotional state shapes every business result you produce. The quality of your client conversations, the confidence behind your decisions, the decisions you make under pressure. When your baseline internal state shifts from self-doubt to positive expectation, everything you do changes too. You take more confident action and spot more opportunities. For more on how mindset attributes separate thriving entrepreneurs from stuck ones, the post on what makes entrepreneurs successful is a great read.

What’s the difference between mindset training and therapy?

Therapy is a professional mental health service that addresses psychological conditions, trauma, and emotional disorders. Mindset training is a daily self-practice focused on building the habit of proactive, positive thinking to improve performance, confidence, and results in your business and life. They can complement each other beautifully, but they’re not the same thing. If you’re experiencing depression, anxiety, or another mental health challenge, please seek support from a qualified professional. Mindset training is most powerful as a daily growth practice layered on top of a solid foundation of wellbeing.

How do I stay consistent with mindset training when life gets busy?

The secret is to attach the practices to things you’re already doing rather than trying to carve out new time. Say your mantra while you make coffee or walk the dog. Write your wins list before you close your laptop for the day. Do the 60-second morning practice before your feet hit the floor. The practices are designed to take minutes, not hours… And on the days when it all feels like too much, one mantra is enough. One sentence. One win. Your RAS is still listening, even on the flat days. Consistency over time is important, and one missed day is just… one missed day. Stay the course. You’ve got this.
