Mantra to Remove Negative Thoughts From Your Mind

A mantra to remove negative thoughts from your mind is one of the most practical brain training tools you’ll ever use.

Not spiritual fluff. Not a placebo. A real, repeatable practice that changes what your brain looks for, focuses on, and attracts.

And yet most entrepreneurs skip it. Or they try it once, feel a little silly, and go back to grinding through their to-do list while the same worried, self-doubting thoughts loop in the background.

Sound familiar?

Here’s what I want you to know before we go any further: your brain is not broken. It’s just running on default. And a mantra is one of the fastest, simplest ways to change that.

Let’s get into it.

A Mantra to Remove Negative Thoughts From Your Mind Is Not Woo-Woo

Dana, mantras? Really?

Yes. Really.

Here’s the thing. Your brain cycles through somewhere between 60,000 and 90,000 thoughts every single day. The research on this is consistent and… a little staggering. Did you know about 95 percent of those thoughts are the exact same ones you had yesterday?

So if yesterday’s thoughts included “I’m not making enough money,” “Why isn’t this working,” or “Maybe I’m just not cut out for this”… guess what your brain is serving up again today?

The same thoughts. On repeat. Without you even noticing.

That is called thinking by default. And it’s the default state for most people, most of the time.

A mantra interrupts that loop. You give your brain something different to focus on, something that feels true and positive and possible, and with repetition, your brain starts to run with it instead.

That is not woo-woo. That’s neuroscience.

How Your Brain Responds to a Repeated Positive Phrase

Your brain has a built-in filtering system called the Reticular Activating System, or RAS for short. Think of it as the part of your brain that decides what is worth paying attention to.

It works like a little matchmaker that lives in your head. Whatever you consistently focus on, your RAS goes looking for evidence of it in your environment. Focus on what is going wrong, and your brain finds more of what is going wrong. Focus on possibility, progress, and positive shifts, and your brain starts finding evidence of those things instead.

A positive mantra that changes negative thoughts to positive ones works because it gives your RAS a new directive. You are literally telling your brain what to look for.

And here is the part that gets me every time: it kicks in after just 3 days of consistent practice. Three days! That’s all it takes to start feeling a real shift.

If you want to go deeper on how this system works, I have a whole post on ways to activate your Reticular Activating System that walks through it step by step.

Why Negative Thoughts Feel So Sticky, Especially for Entrepreneurs

You’ve taken courses. You followed the advice. You’ve shown up, done the work, and tried more strategies than you can count.

And still, there is that voice.

“You’re behind.” “That person is so much further ahead.” “Maybe you’re just not good enough at this.”

If that’s running in the background of your business, I want you to hear this clearly: you are not broken. You are not failing. You’re just sometimes running on autopilot, and your brain is doing exactly what untrained brains do.

Despite what you hear from others, your brain is not sabotaging you. In fact, your brain is your best friend.

Here’s the truth about the so-called “negativity bias” you may have heard about:

When you feel safe → you’re more open, creative, and positive.
When stressed → you become more threat-focused.

This is why I am so passionate about teaching people how to “train their brains.”

So, in other words, when you’re already feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and overworked, you will default to “negative.” In this state of mind, criticisms will seem harsher, and the chance of success will feel slim.

The brain defaults to negative because it wants to protect you. Your brain is always looking out for your best interests. But when you use positive mantras and other mindset tools, you train your brain to default to a positive mindset.

A mantra to stop overthinking and clear negative energy doesn’t just make you feel better in the moment. It trains your brain, over time, to stop defaulting to the negative and start defaulting to something that actually serves you.

How to Use a Daily Mantra to Clear Negative Thoughts From Your Mind

Here’s the practical part.

You don’t need a meditation cushion, an app, or an hour of free time. You need a phrase that feels good and a commitment to repeating it.

Say it in the morning before you open your inbox. Say it before a sales call. Say it when the self-doubt hits in the middle of the afternoon. Say it out loud if you can, or say it to yourself if you cannot. Either way works.

The key is repetition and feeling. You want to say the words and actually let yourself feel the truth of them, even if just a little.

Here is the truth about the RAS. The Reticular Activating System will match the mantra whether you believe it or not. But … and this is a big but … you must not use your conscious mind to “argue” with the positive mantra you’re saying.

So, it’s nice if you can let a mantra elevate you emotionally, but at the very least, don’t argue with it or “feel bad” when you say it. If you ever feel bad when saying your mantra, stop saying it and try a different mindset tool.

You don’t have to believe your mantra 100 percent at first. You just have to be willing to take a playful attitude toward it.

Daily Mantra to Clear Negative Thoughts From Your Mind

The Best Mantra for Negative Thinking and Self-Doubt as an Entrepreneur

One of my absolute favorite mantras, the one I come back to again and again and the one I share with entrepreneurs in my programs, goes like this:

Something is shifting.

I can feel something shifting.

Something is starting to shift.

Read that again. Out loud if you can. Feel it.

This mantra works because it doesn’t ask your brain to leap from “everything is hard” all the way to “everything is amazing.” It asks your brain to notice movement. Progress. Change that is already in motion, even if you can’t see the proof yet.

Your brain can accept that. And when it does, your RAS starts looking for evidence that it’s true. And the best part is that your brain knows what that “something” is!

Here are a few variations you can rotate through depending on what you need on a given day:

Something is shifting in my business.

I can feel it moving forward.

I trust that this is happening.

Or this one for when the self-doubt is especially loud:

I am already on the path.

Things are unfolding in perfect timing.

Something is shifting, and I can feel it.

And this one for money mindset:

Money is shifting in my direction.

I can feel something shifting.

I can feel something is already shifting.

Use them first thing in the morning. Use them before you sit down to work. Write one on a sticky note and put it where you can see it. Let repetition do what repetition does.

Use a Mantra to Shift Your Mindset Before You Take Action in Your Business

Most entrepreneurs take action first and hope positive feelings will follow.

Training your brain flips that around: Feel good first. Then take action.

When you chant a mantra before a business task, a sales conversation, or a piece of content you’ve been putting off, you change the energy you bring to it. And that energy matters more than most people realize.

Think about the last time you showed up for something from a place of genuine confidence and calm. The words came easier. The conversation flowed. The work felt lighter.

Now think about the last time you pushed through from a place of fear or overwhelm. Same task, very different experience and very different result.

A mantra for mental clarity used before you take action shifts your baseline state. You don’t wait to feel confident. You use the mantra to get there first, and it only takes 60-90 seconds to shift your energy.

If you can’t think of anything else, just change one word like “yes” or “joy” 100 times. That works as well as a mantra.

This is a step most entrepreneurs skip. And it’s the one that changes everything when they finally add it.

A Positive Mindset Mantra Helps You Build a Business That Feels Good

Here’s the bigger picture.

When you commit to a daily mantra practice, you stop operating from fear and start operating from confidence. Not every day, not perfectly, but over time, the default shifts.

Your thinking gets clearer. Your self-trust grows. The right clients feel the difference in how you show up, and they are drawn to it.

You can make money by being happy. That is not a slogan. It is what happens when a brain-trained entrepreneur brings her best self to her business every day instead of grinding from an exhausted, self-doubting place.

You do not have to earn your joy after success. Joy is what creates the success.

Read the following words out loud or to yourself, and feel the shift:

Something is shifting.

I can feel it.

I can feel it happening.

My brain is already getting trained for the positive.

My brain is already looking for what is working.

My brain is already finding evidence of my success.

Something is shifting in my business.

Something is shifting in my confidence.

Something is shifting in my income.

Something is shifting.

Something is shifting.

Something is shifting.

I can feel it.

It’s already happening.

It’s happening right …

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use a mantra to remove negative thoughts from my mind?

Say your chosen mantra out loud or to yourself, ideally once in the morning, once before you start work, and any time a negative thought loop kicks in. The key is repetition and playfulness. You can just “say” the words, as long as you don’t argue with them. Within 72 hours of consistent practice, your brain starts to shift what it focuses on and looks for.

How long does it take for a mantra to work on negative thinking?

Your Reticular Activating System responds to consistent focus within about 72 hours. Three days of intentional mantra practice can produce a noticeable shift in how you feel and what you notice.

What’s the difference between a mantra and an affirmation?

They are different words for the same thing. Both work on the same brain science principle: what you focus on consistently shapes what your RAS goes looking for. Remember, for maximum brain impact, write your mantras in the affirmative and make sure they are “believable.”

Can a mantra really help me grow my business?

Yes, and here is why. When you clear the background noise of negative self-talk with a consistent mantra practice, you free up mental energy for clarity, creativity, and confident action. You show up differently. Your sales conversations feel lighter. Your content comes from a more grounded place. You show up as your best self and so you attract clients, sales, and opportunities.
